For 20 years, Jennifer Myers Chalal has distinguished herself at Spector Gadon Rosen Vinci P.C. (SGRV) by preparing the next generation of legal talent in new and innovative ways, and the results have been extraordinary—with her skills as a mentor paving the way for high-level achievement and stellar contributions to the profession.

Chalal, a Member of SGRV’s Employment Law Group, chairs the firm’s mentorship program, which is celebrating its 20th year of inspiring and empowering current and future attorneys who participate in SGRV’s direct-hire or semester-based clerkship program. The program began when SGRV became a charter law firm in the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law Co-Op Program and has continued consecutively at the firm for two decades in expanded ways.

SGRV Associate Adam A. Filbert is among the program’s greatest success stories. Chalal, along with Employment Law Group Chair Alan B. Epstein, first welcomed Filbert to the firm as a Drexel Co-Op, enlisting all SGRV attorneys to help Filbert further his educational goals. This included regularly reviewing their calendars and worklists to find in-person or virtual events (e.g., court appearances, client meetings, virtual conferences, etc.) and tasks (e.g., drafting briefs, agreements and memos, research projects, document review, etc.) in which Filbert could participate.

Illustrative of the pipeline opportunities created by the SGRV program, Filbert flourished as a Co-Op and subsequently was invited by the firm to join as a part-time Law Clerk while studying for the Bar, and later as a full-time, award-winning Associate who currently maintains an active practice with the firm with a busy caseload. Filbert was named a Lawyer on the Fast Track, as well as a Super Lawyer Rising Star for two consecutive years. With Filbert and dozens of others, Chalal has dedicated hundreds of hours of her time to impart unique skills and points of view, advancing SGRV’s art of constructive collaboration which has shaped SGRV mentees into accolade-winning attorneys.

Outside of the office, Chalal exemplifies the role of mentor as she has served as an instructor for various employment law seminars and published extensively on employment issues, including articles on topics ranging from “Employee-At-Will Doesn’t Bar Fraudulent Misrepresentation Claim” and “Sexual Harassment in the Office: Drawing the Lines and Reassessing the Costs” to “Court: Under ADA, Employers Must Participate In Interactive Process.” For the past two years, Chalal has served as Co-Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Committee.

Chalal handles all types of employment law matters for both employers and employees. In addition, she regularly provides employment advice to all types of businesses, conducts workplace investigations, prepares employment handbooks, and provides workplace seminars. In addition to being consistently named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer, Chalal has been named to the Top 50 Women Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for the past several years.

For Chalal, being a mentor is much more than giving back to the legal community. It is a professional calling—for which we all must play an active role.
