Spector Gadon Rosen Vinci P.C. Senior Litigation Counsel Bruce Bellingham was selected for the great honor of being named a 2025 Volunteer Lawyer of the Year by Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts [PVLA]. Bellingham boasts one of the firm’s most comprehensive pro-bono portfolios and will be honored by the organization this May for his dedication to the arts and his invaluable contributions to the creative community in the spirit of PVLA.

PVLA works to match skilled, volunteer lawyers like Mr. Bellingham with low-income artists, artist collectives, and small-budget arts and cultural organizations who seek assistance with legal matters related to their arts practice or arts business. Together with their community partners, they strive to support a thriving creative sector in the Greater Philadelphia region. PVLA empowers artists by securing free legal assistance and resources with volunteer attorneys cumulatively contributing over $1 million in pro bono legal services each year.

An active provider of pro bono legal services for the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts organization for many years, Mr. Bellingham was also awarded the 2009 Volunteer of the Year award from the Arts and Business Council of Greater Philadelphia for his work. His work included representing the Philadelphia Peking Opera Society in cy pres litigation over funds from a dissolved non-profit (his client received an award) and representation of a muralist whose work was removed from a wall in violation of the Visual Artists Rights Act (the case settled).  He represented a prominent artist whose painting was held by a fine arts storage service which asserted a lien on the work based on a dealer’s failure to pay. After suing under the Artworks Consignment Act the artist recovered his work even though the storage company performed a service for the dealer and was not paid.

Mr. Bellingham regularly represents several prominent Los Angeles area photographers, and occasionally other photographers, bringing claims against content pirates located in New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware (with local counsel). He also represents copyright defendants facing infringement claims in which finds defects which often dissuade plaintiffs from litigation.

Mr. Bellingham’s legal work is divided between commercial litigation with an emphasis on dispositive motions and appellate advocacy; copyright infringement work and representation of artists, arts organizations, and content creators; and business advice and contract work generally for small to medium-sized firms and individuals. He has been elected a Super Lawyer by his peers in the field of intellectual property (copyright) in the years 2015-2024.
